Alfred L. Riccio

Alfred L. Riccio was born on August 3, 1914 in New York to Frank and Josephine Riccio

In Rye, his family lived at 135 Maple Avenue. Alfred was one of eleven children and he and his family were parishoners of Resurrection Church. Alfred was a Rye High School Graduate in the class of 1934. He played football for the school team and ran for the varsity track team.

He continued to run for varsity track at Middlebury College and was a member of the Blue Key, an honorary society. Alfred graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1938. Alfred was working with The Childrens Aid Society before the Second World War.

Alfred enlisted in the U.S. Army in January of 1941 (World War II). His service number was “32003082”. He advanced to the rank of sergeant in the Ninth Infantry Division, more specifically the 47th Infantry Regiment, which fought in northern Africa, Sicily, and Normandy. For his service, Mr. Riccio received the Combat Infantryman Badge in 1944. In 1945, when he was 30 years old, he was awarded the Bronze Star during the time the Ninth spent in Germany.

After the war, Alfred married Maria C Cerone on April 29, 1950, in his hometown. They had one child during their marriage. From 1951, Alfred worked for the C.R. Wallauer & Co., receiving an award for 24 years of service.

Mr. Riccio passed away on September 6, 2007 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the age of 93. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Terina, his daughter Cynthia, as well as his siblings: Joseph and Frank Riccio, Marie Eastman, and Florence Carlo.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Malachy Catholic Church followed by entombment in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Mausoleum.
